摘　  要

      埃德加﹒爱伦﹒坡是浪漫派作家中较为特别的一位, 他的作品色彩大都被他的生活经历所沾染，显得阴暗，情调低沉。爱伦﹒坡的作品在他那个时代并未得到肯定。但是在现代，他的小说，尤其是哥特式短篇小说越来越被人们所熟悉，并且也有很多学者和评论家加入到对其作品的研究的行列。坡不赞成以说教为目的，他的小说里，特别是哥特式小说里有的就是精辟华美的文字，远离现实的幻想，和对最真实的人性的揭露，每一个阅读过他小说的人都不得不直面灵魂深处的黑暗。本文从坡的哥特小说的写作手法入手，分为三部分去解析坡的一系列哥特小说。本文重在分析爱伦﹒坡的哥特小说，所以文章开篇就介绍了“哥特”一词的来源以及意义。文章第二部分正式切入主题，从“重复”、“象征”两种坡惯用的修辞手法入手，并且将这两种修辞手法放入坡的哥特小说文本中加以解析。虽然“重复”和“象征”两种修辞手法被数不胜数的作家使用过，但在坡的哥特小说中这两种修辞手法的运用都十分独特，特别是文章中提到“重复”的第四种形式，即文本中的文本与原文本之间的重复。文章最后一部分介绍了坡对唯美主义的追求，进而将美衍变成了一种壮观、悲伤的哥特式唯美，打破了所谓常规的美。无论是坡对修辞手法的运用或者是他在文中表现出的对哥特唯美主义的执着都反应了他与众不同的写作手法。这种手法运用到他的哥特小说中，不仅让小说中恐怖的氛围加重，并且还在这些恐惧和黑暗下面让读者领略了人性中的爱和对美的不同理解与运用。

Abstract

       Compared with other writers in the Romantic Period, Edgar Allen Poe is a strange and capable person, and he is not accepted as a poet and writer by other writers in early stage. In modern times, more and more people are interested in Allen Poe and his works. Many readers pay close attention to his short stories which take great effects on describing morbid sense and dark side of the characters. Allen Poe has achieved a great reputation of the originator for the west detective story. When we speak of Allen Poe, we come to his Gothic fictions, because Poe is skillful in Gothic writing style. This thesis discusses this writing style and analyzes his mysterious Gothic fictions. And the thesis analyzes Allen Poe‘s Gothic writing style in three parts. First it describes the source of Gothic. The second part analyzes Allen Poe‘s Gothic fictions from repetition and symbol. In this part, a lot of Poe’s original stories are discussed. The last part describes aestheticism in Poe’s Gothic fictions. No matter what rhetoric or Gothic aestheticism represents in Poe’s stories, they both express his unique writing style. This writing style strengthens the horror atmosphere in his stories, which helps readers understand love in human nature, different senses of beauty and its application.
