Abstract

 It is common knowledge that interest is the driving force of every activity. In learning, interest becomes the best incitement and instructor for students. Therefore, the task of developing students’ interest in learning is of tremendous essence both for teachers and students, especially for teachers, who play a crucial role in students’ all-round growth. Nevertheless, in current China, many high school students are unwilling to learn English and this, to a large degree, is resulted from their lack of interest in English learning. With regard to this issue, high school English teachers should primarily stimulate and develop students’ interest so as to spur the enthusiasm of students in participation in English class. How to arouse students’ interest in learning English has become the life of English teaching and learning. On the basis of the analysis of features of high school students’ interest and English itself as a school subject, combined with the writer’s personal experience of nearly ten-year English learning, this paper sums up and further puts forward some factually practical and effective teaching strategies to stimulate high school students’ interest in learning English.
