 随着信息技术的发展及医院运行机制的转变,医院信息系统已成为现代化医院必不可少的重要基础设施与支撑环境,现代计算机技术、信息技术和医学技术的融合给生命科学带来了新的发展契机和巨大推动力.
    医院信息系统是计算机技术、通信技术和管理科学在医院管理中的应用,是计算机技术对医院管理、临床医学、医院信息管理相互结合的产物,它极大地推动了医院管理和医学科学技术的发展.它是集病人信息管理,包括住院管理系统,病人^^文档管理系统,医院办公管理系统以及药品管理系统为一体的统合性管理系统,在复杂的医院管理程序中,任何一环都有可能出错,有些时候甚至是关乎生命挽救的成功与失败,信息系统的高效率可以及时的为医院管理人员提供各种信息,为决策者提供了可靠的依据,医院应用信息系统，其效益的提高是综合性的,医院的管理者和决策者,应充分看到信息系统在其中的作用,从而来减少管理成本,并提高整体的工作效率.
